The head of VW criticized the problems of power stations for electric cars

Ionity Car Charging Station

Herbert Diess, head of the Volkswagen group, was dissatisfied with the charging stations found along his route to test an ID.3 Pro S.

Electric cars are becoming more and more efficient in terms of autonomy and charging speed, but the infrastructure dedicated to them seems to lag behind. In a comment on Linkedin, VW chief Herbert Diess criticized the problems of the charging stations he tried to use during his vacation.

Responding to a post by Volkswagen AG’s spokesman for the E-Mobility division, Andreas Gross, in which he said that he followed his boss’s journey to Lake Garda, then to Lake Constance and Basel to return to Berlin aboard a ID.3, Diess had an unexpected reaction.

“Excellent tour, good experience. I was now at Lake Constanța, then at Lago di Garda. Now with an ID.3 Pro S. With its very good autonomy, if you have a defensive, cautious driving style, you can get from Lake Constanța to Lake Garda (about 500 km through the mountains) without an intermediate load. Even in crowded, holiday traffic.

But: Too few loading points in the Brenner Pass! Only four.

Of course, everyone stops at that mall (where the charging station is). He was busy. So I continued on to Trento. Even after the criticism made last year, there are no toilets, no coffee area, and one of the stations was defective. Sad. That’s all, but not premium charging experience, Ionity, Herbert Diess wrote on LinkedIn.

Journalists from Automobilwoche note that the answer from Ionity – a company in which the Volkswagen group has a 20% stake – came immediately. “We repaired the faulty station yesterday,” wrote Marcus Groll, the company’s chief operating officer, in response to Diess’s comment. “As for the station in Trento, we are working with our local partner, ENI, to improve customer service,” the Ionity official added.
